Dwarka Expressway tunnels to IGI Airport begin trial runs
29 May 2025 · Road
The airport tunnel link on Dwarka Expressway started trial runs on May 29, 2025. NHAI opened it to traffic from noon to 3 pm on weekdays and aimed for full operation around June 5.
The system is about 5.1 km long. The main 3.6 km, eight-lane tunnel connects the expressway with IGI Airport, and a 1.5 km two-lane tunnel links it to NH-48 towards Gurugram. Underpasses also allow movement from Terminal 3 and Dwarka/Yashobhoomi towards Sirhaul.
Vehicles must be under 4.5 metres tall. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, slow-moving vehicles and tankers carrying flammable cargo are not allowed. The tunnels have CCTV, a central control room and emergency exits.
What it means for buyers: for the expressway sectors, this was the link that made the airport connection real. If quick airport access matters to you, a test drive at peak hour and in the rain tells you more than a brochure will.
