Heavy rain floods Dwarka Expressway tunnel, slows traffic in Gurugram
5 September 2026 · Infrastructure
Early September rain exposed a familiar weak spot on the corridor. Water collected inside the Dwarka Expressway tunnel and traffic crawled through it, with commuters posting complaints online about being stuck for long stretches.
Gurugram logged 44.5 mm of rain over 24 hours, according to the report, while the India Meteorological Department put 15 Haryana districts, Gurugram and Faridabad among them, on yellow alert for heavy rain and strong winds until September 7.
The report also pointed back to the cost debate. The Haryana stretch opened in March 2024 and the Delhi stretch in August 2025, and the corridor's widely quoted cost of about Rs 250 crore per km made drainage failures an easy target for criticism.
What it means for buyers: drainage is still a real weak point here. Before you commit, look at how a society and its approach roads coped during this monsoon, ask residents, and check whether your daily route depends on low points such as tunnels and underpasses.
